Yes, this actually happened. An associate of mine brought in a bunch of analog (Hi-8) cassettes and seemed shocked that I couldn’t somehow plug them directly into our Mac Mini.

I’ve had this happen to me too!
I had to go digging around the back of the shop to find something to play it, THEN I had to find compatible cables.
